Highland Inn History

The Highland Inn is an historic hotel located in the Virginia’s Alleghany Highlands. The hotel is the the premier architectural landmark in the historic town of Monterey, the county seat of Highland County, often and fondly referred to as “Virginia’s Little Switzerland.”

The Inn built in 1904 by Silas W. Crummett, a local businessman, to serve the lodging needs of tourists escaping from the summer heat of nearby cities, and for its first 75 years was known as the Hotel Monterey. The Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Virginia Historic Landmark.
